What is PAT Testing
It is a method where portable appliances are given a formal visual inspection. Cables are checked to make sure there is no cuts or abrasions that allow the wires to be seen or touched, plugs are taken apart to check that the correct fuse has been installed and to make sure that the wires are secured properly. After these have been checked it is then attached to a pat testing machine, this checks that the Earth continuity, Insulation resistance and Polarity are all within the tolerances laid down in the IEE (Institute of electrical engineers). Code of practice. If the appliances do not fall within the tolerances laid down then they are recorded as a fail & taken out of use immediately.
What is required of you
We will need access to all areas that testing is required and all items to be tested must be easily accessible, i.e. fridges, freezers, dish washers, tumble dryers & washing machines must be pulled out so the cable & plug can be inspected.
